Replacing words with an image is a hack.

The most laborious guideline to follow about explaining a concept is to keep it simple. If I need a thousand words, it's not simple.

If you want to describe something complex and you don't have the time to keep it simple then do use a diagram but at least ask yourself if you really need all those details and that complexity all at once in the first place.
