Some people have the chance to make products they are passionate about. Some people are passionate about the making of a product. Some people are lucky enough to do both, but if you have no interest in the product and the development, you should probably ask what's next for you. Your life will be difficult if you have no satisfaction in your work at all.

For the others, building software in the corporate world, all the company's goals and visions will orient towards making more money from the products you don't necessarily care about. Every vision the business has will not motivate you. What you want is to build good quality software. You don't necessarily care for what it will be used for, but how maintainable, performant and secure it will be.

It is time to defend your interests and the ones of your peers. You're probably not alone thinking like this. Is there some form of software expertise meetings where you work? Start one if you must. Your team of developers need to understand and own that they are the experts and the only ones responsible for building software that is maintainable and secure. Good software craftsmanship is our passion. We need to defend it.

More voices will be easier to be heard, and management will listen if you speak the same language they do. More money will come where employees are happy and do work they are proud of.
